The Council of the EMS held in Budapest on the 21st of July 1996 decided that the 3rd European Congress of Mathematics would be held in Barcelona, according to the candidature presented by the Catalan Mathematical Society (SCM).

The Congress will begin on Monday 10 and will end on Saturday 14 of July 2000. The Opening, Prize Awards and Closing Cerimonies will take place in the Congress Palace (Palau de Congressos), the first two in the afternoon of Monday, July 10, and the last in the morning of Saturday, July 14.

The reception of the participants will also take place in the Congress Palace in the morning of Monday, July 10.

It is expected that before and/or after the Congress there will be a good number of satellite activities that will make still more attractive the participation in the Congress. And all this will happen in the context of the World Mathematical Year 2000.
