The Societat Catalana de Matemàtiques (Catalan Mathematical Society)
is a branch society of the
Institut d'Estudis Catalans and
it continues the work of the Secció de Matemàtiques
of the Societat Catalana de Ciències, founded by the
Institut in 1931.
The main goals of the SCM are:
- to promote work in the mathematical sciences,
- to disseminate mathematical knowledge
into the Catalan society at large,
- to foster teaching and research of mathematics and
its applications, and
- to publish those materials which are suitable to these goals.
The SCM carries out its activities in the Catalan speaking
countries. Thus the Catalan language is the language of the
SCM and it will be the one used in all its acts and
publications.
The SCM is ruled by its own Statutes (Estatuts, 5.4.1991), by
those of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (25.4.1988) and by the
Reglament de règim interior (Internal Regulations) of the
Institut d'Estudis Catalans (27.5.1988).
